Senator Wiener, Attorney General Bonta Announce Legislation Authorizing New Civil Penalties for Flagrant State Housing Law Violations
SACRAMENTO — Today Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced new legislation (Senate Bill 1037), sponsored by Attorney General Rob Bonta, to enhance the Attorney General’s ability to seek civil penalties in court against local governments that violate state housing law. Currently, when a court finds a locality in violation of state housing law, monetary penalties can only be imposed 60 days, or in some cases up to a year, after a court has ordered compliance.
Senator Wiener Announces Progress On Housing In San Francisco’s Coastal Zone
SACRAMENTO – After several months of productive dialogue with the California Coastal Commission and San Francisco Planning Department over housing construction in western San Francisco, Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) announced that he has removed provisions from SB 951 that would have redrawn the coastal zone boundary in San Francisco to the Great Highway.

SACRAMENTO – Today, Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Aisha Wahab (D-Silicon Valley) announced Senate Bill 1031, The Connect Bay Area Act. SB 1031 authorizes a Bay Area ballot measure to provide transportation funding on the 2026 ballot or later, and require operational reforms and a consolidation assessment beginning next year.
